Dear Battle of Hatfield Supporters,
EVENTS
Four of us are spending a fact finding day with the Wirral Archaeology CIC group (“WAG”) (Brunanburh ? (937 AD) – on the Wirral (8th November).
This was originally scheduled for 12th Oct. (as notified) – but had to be postponed due to illness. :
If anyone else would like to attend then we can provide directions but you will probably have to make your own journey arrangements.
Please let me know asap in order for us to let the WAG know of the numbers attending.
We will report back on our day shortly and also cover it in our Dec. 2023 A.G.M. (date to be finalised shortly).
WHY WE ARE ATTENDING – To re-iterate :
1/ WAG are also looking for a battle field and have discovered some 2,000 congruent items but probably from a post battle re-processing area.
2/ Perhaps this critical mass of items has helped John Moores University (Liverpool) etc.. become freely involved & this could also help persuade future HLF BOHIS funding
3/ To understand the soil types / depths of artefact recovery / cropped areas impact on finds depth. Note that WAG now have an XP Deus detector which can reach depths of 15 feet !
4/ To try to understand more about battle related funerary practices
5/ To understand their current funding and future bids considering their c. 2,000 finds.
Regards,
From All The Team
