Dear Supporters,
As you may be aware, the Chesterfield Metal Detecting Club (“CMDC”) have supported BOHIS by detecting in five fields (February / March 20) and again in another 4 fields (November 22 to March 24).
This has typically been on certain Sundays and the average number of CMDC detectorists “supplied” has been 12-15 on each occasion. Typically CMDC operate between 9:30am and 4pm with minimal lunch.
In contrast, each detecting day, BOHIS only supply myself as supervisor (and poor quality detectorist !) and at best, 2 or 3 other BOHIS members.
Often it is very cold, windswept and even sleeting on occasion !
Over the many mainly Sundays, CMDC have uncovered some 2,500 + items, which include a potential Anglo-Saxon sword pommel, a mysterious “raven” piece, a potential arrowhead, an Edward the Third half groat, medieval lead seals and many more interesting pieces.
This is also a testament to their honesty and integrity, which no one should attempt to doubt.
We are currently still seeking to resolve permissions for further detecting and yes, CMDC will still be involved.
The point is that they deserve a reward, which will only be very modest considering their input but it’s the thought that counts (… somewhat !).
Hence, I’ve been talking about dates for this event with CMDC Chairman, Dave Stanley.
Whilst I don’t really wish to be crass and talk about money, for avoidance of doubt, this is unlikely to cost BOHIS more than £150, so I hope you will agree that this is a small amount considering the thousands of CMDC hours expended and the petrol costs incurred.
Accordingly, BOHIS are funding a small evening buffet for CMDC, provisionally on Monday 7th October (time also to be confirmed, but probably around 7:30pm).

If any supporters would like to attend, then can you please let me know by close of play, Friday 20th September.
Please don’t attend without booking through myself as that will cause a deficit of food per person and make it less enjoyable.
The buffet is FREE.
I will confirm the date and time asap (hopefully this week).
The buffet will also be a good opportunity to catch up and discuss future initiatives, prior to the next BOHIS meeting (hopefully mid October).
