Dear Supporters,
On Weds. May 6th, the ‘History Hit’ team of Bill Brooke (Producer / camera), Matt Lewis (Presenter & Drone master) and Mike Edwardson (Support) travelled to Cuckney to produce a programme dedicated to the Battle of Hatfield.
The ‘History Hit’ company is owned by presenter Dan Snow, who I’m sure is familiar to many.
We started early at 8am and went through until 6pm, so hopefully you’ll agree it was quite a full, yet rewarding day.
Direct contributors included myself and MERCIAN CIC (archaeologists) members.
Thanks also to Steve Mitchell and Trevor Crook (BOHIS) for moral support and with action photos etc.. during the day.
There may be a gap of a year until the programme is transmitted but we may have a fund raiser viewing at Cuckney Village Hall (subject to permission from the ‘History Hit’ team of course).
I understand that the programme could be viewed by c. 500,000 people, which is exciting news in terms of broader project exposure.
I’ve included a few photos of the day (below) to enlighten and enliven the event.
Finally, on another matter, BOHIS have been in contact with another landowner regarding the possibility of Metal detecting, field walking and ground truthing (looking at the landscape) in an area that may very speculatively represent, ‘The Plain of Haethfelth’ (ie. the possible battle area). The meeting is likely to take place in mid June 2026. If agreeable to the landowner, operational work may ensue in late Autumn.
Thanks for your continued support.
Paul
